The SunCity Wheelers was founded on February 12th of 2023 from two co-founders who came from a previous program set out to make a more inclusive and affordable non-for-profit wheelchair basketball program for all to enjoy and to push the importance of inclusion in the community to be seen. Our first session came just over a month after being founded on the 15th of March of 2023 with only 4 players we went and started this journey.  After a few fundraisers at our local Bunnings and Disability Sports Australia reaching out to us we began to get more of a following on our socials and by the weekly we began seeing more and more participants joining in for our training sessions with our most attended training session in 2023 being 19 people. During this first year we had 3 sponsors come on board and they are still here to this day. Once the second year came we seen higher numbers on the regular at training with our most so far in 2024 being 33 participants in one session, our main focus for year 2 was instilling all our players with the skills to participate in competition games whilst having fun and working towards everyone's goals that they want to get out of the program whether its wanting to compete at the competitive level or not. Looking forward we are bringing our own competition to Townsville in June next year called 'Hoops In The Tropics. We are so grateful for the many memories that have added onto our story and are looking for to sharing what the bright future holds with the amazing people with have in our program and the company's we have supporting us from the sidelines!
